Sunday, January 6, 2008 Cave creatures and other ramblings On Saturday I felt like I was coming down with a cold but I still wanted to get out and do something fun. The weather, which had been down into the low teens last week (practically intolerable for this southern girl) had warmed up to a nice 50ish, so hiking to a cave was a nice option. Three of us decided to visit the cave where I'm about to start the biological inventory, but this trip was just going to be for fun. I haven't received all of my supplies yet, so sampling wasn't an option. We crawled inside the small limestone entrance and let our eyes adjust to the low light. A strong, warm breeze (56 deg F) blew past us and out the cave entrance (caves frequently "breathe" as the outside temperature and humidity vary; sometimes a strong flow of air issues out of a cave entrance, sometimes the caves "suck in" a high volume of air, and sometimes there is very little air movement). theinfinitesphere.blogspot.com/2008/01/cave-creatures-and-other-ramblings.html
