My brother found a plant growing in the cave we was in yesterday... yea, you heard it , I said it, a plant growing. It had a white stem and appeared to have two yellow leafy buds beginning to develop. We was at least 3 levels down inside the cave and was wondering if this is a normal find or could it be a freak plant of some sort. Anyone with info, give me a holler.

I'm not sure what sort of plant you have, but having seeds sprout and the first two leaves come out is fairly common in damp to wet caves. The plant is living on the energy in the seed. When it finds no more energy in the seed, it dies without sunlight. End of story.
Pretty cool that you noticed it, though!

Thanks Az... we was hoping someone would tell us something about it. My brother found it as we was pushing a cavern about 24" high. I think he was pushing his pack and one of the straps go the plant. I just thought it funny that it would even sprout at all. Thanks for the info on it, I will pass it along.

I've seen similar stuff too. They don't last long but they do try to grow until the food runs out.

A bit off topic but my favorite fungus to see in a cave is the mushroom.
