I've heard inklings that there was a rescue situation with injury from Hurricane Cave on Fox Mountain (Georgia) during the last couple of weeks, but have been unable to find any published media accounts from that. I think someone mentioned a youth group was visiting the cave.
Has anyone read or seen any media reports from such an incident?
Thanks for any info anyone may have.

Sharon,
There was a small piece on the Chattanooga affiliates about that particular incident. Walker Co Rescue assisted Dade Co. Rescue in a carry-out. Someone fell not far inside the entrance crawl.

Not quite sure what your asking. If you mean after the fact, well it was a rather insignificant rescue, so there wasn't much of a stir in the community.
I'm sure if someone had died or it was some long 24 hour rescue saga involving countless agencies then there probably would have been some long, drawn out, armchair qb debate on it for months on TAGnet.

I wasn't aware there was any such thing as an "NSS cave rescue unit". Would you care to explain that?

There isn't. There are local agencies such as Hamilton County, TN and Walker County, GA who have dedicated Cave Rescue units. On most large scale rescues the local agencies usually will work together. The NSS has no organized unit.

Perhaps this is one of those common misconceptions - like people thinking the National Cave Rescue Commission (of the NSS) is an active rescue organization, rather than just a training and support resource (and a very valuable one, at that!) ;D
