Into the DepthStudents explore the underground world with Campus Recreation Alestle News Reporter Wearing helmets and headlamps, a group of 12 people cautiously descended into a small opening in the ground on steep, narrow steps covered in leaves and wet foliage. Gripping the handrails for support, the members of the group echoed each others' words of excitement and uncertainty of what awaited them at the bottom. With each step down, the sounds of flowing water became clearer as daylight slowly disappeared from their view. At the bottom, the cool, damp air enveloped the group as they smelled the musty mixture of water and mud. Light beams from their flashlights and headlamps revealed shiny, wet walls and tiered vaulted ceilings. Without the sources of light they brought with them, their exploration of the Illinois Caverns would be dark and dangerous. Full Article

Hmmm, The guide was one Kevin Beehner for this trip. Could he be a distant caving cousin? Personally I prefer the "Beaner" spelling to Beehner.
Interesting article otherwise. I enjoyed reading the odd comments of the people getting their first caving experience. Some liked it and some did not which is about the way it goes for all of us taking newbies along.
