Interesting new article on the incredible Fontanelle underground cemeteryPosted by Larry Dec 05, 2006 Our friend, noted Naples, Italy scholar, Jeff Matthews, has written another masterful article providing a fine historical time line on the development of the bizarre Fontanelle Cemetery which is dug into a cavern in one of the high hills in an ancient quarter of Naples, Italy. Jeff recently was given his first tour beneath the city by our webmaster and senior speleologist, Fulvio Salvi. This is a brief and fascinating article about the cult of Neapolitans who "adopted" the skulls and bones of nameless people buried in the cavern, and cared for them year after year . Please visit faculty.ed.umuc.edu/~jmatthew/naples/Fontanella.htm to read this incredible story. Also, for your reference Jeff has also entered the article in the online Wikipedia at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fontanella_cemeteryOur videos on the Fontanelle cemetary (it) by Napoli Underground
