From George Veni: The First Central American Speleological Congress will be held in Catacamas, Honduras from 28 October to 1 November 2005. There has been a lot of great caving and cave science in Central America, but caving organizations in that region have only just developed to the point where they can host this conference. A vertical training session, lots of great papers, and a trip to Cueva de Rio Talgua (an archaeological site made famous in the press as "Cave of the Glowing Skulls") are planned. This is short notice, but it sounds like a fine event and could benefit from as much participation as possible to help illustrate the importance of caves and karst in Central America, which will help develop and strengthen local caving groups and sound cave and karst management.
