Nice Mineral Online link! Many cavers will benefit from this link. Good find!

Good links Lynn! I have the Discovery Channel handbook, "Rocks & Minerals", that I've used for years. I got it years ago when I was finding a lot of geodes and fossils (outside of caves). The book has been a handy guide to have on hand.

While each ID is fairly comprehensive, the selection of minerals is rather eclectic, and is not very good for the average person with a rock in his/her hand. I wonder what criteria they used? There are about 4000 minerals, known, and about half of these listed fall into the 'rare' category. (Based on 40 years of seeing minerals in the wild, in museums, and at rock shows.)
Beware of using this site unless you are a mineralogist. You are liable to ID a common stone with an uncommon habit or characteristic as something very rare indeed.
