I don't use the ABC Chest Ascender - but it looks very good! I do like the cam's self cleaning holes. Cave mud can jam up gear! So when will your chest ascender arrive and when do you expect to give it a try? Yes I would like to know how well it works and how well you like it.

I don't use the ABC Chest Ascender - but it looks very good! I do like the cam's self cleaning holes. Cave mud can jam up gear! So when will your chest ascender arrive and when do you expect to give it a try? Yes I would like to know how well it works and how well you like it. I did receive the new ABC Chest ascender on Thu 9-13-07, but I was not able to give it a try as of yet. What time I had this weekend myself, my son and my daughter went back to check out a new pit that we found early this year behind my house. We found this pit (most likely unknown and not on the area topo I got from Bill Torode) while going back home from checking on a couple of know pits behind my house. I just happen to change my route one day while going back home and ran right into this new find. It is within about 300 hundred yards of our house around 850’ elevation. It's funny how something can be so close to your on home and in which I have explored around so many times and easily be over looked. I did have time to drop the pit this weekend and found it was around 60' total depth. We took some good pictures and a little video. I am looking forward to checking out one other new pit again this is one other that I have ran across this year after finding the first new pit. This one is not to far away from the first one, but just up a little higher elevation. Which again is also not on Bill's personal topo maps. Again you can never tell what you just might find so close to home! So as soon as I can I’ll be back checking out this one. I will try to check my info and locations to the ACS data this week and I am hoping to get a chance to run by the NSS office and talk to Bill to see if he may know anything about either one of these pits. Well another story back to the new gear issue. Anyway after this weekend expedition, it looks like my teenage son is claiming the new ABC Chest Ascender as his new piece of gear. So anyway, since I did starting setting him up a new frogging system this year and so he would only need a new frog harness to finish his system. So I thought this only make since to let him claim the new gear, since he has been working on his vertical training this summer in the back yard. So hopefully we should be able to give it a try some time this week or this weekend. I will keep you informed and let you know how well we like it.

We finally got to give the new ABC Chest Ascender a try. Boy it has a very smooth opening action!! It is very smooth on rope, and sits against your stomach very nicely. My son got to use it more than I did and he really did like it a lot. He really does like it better than my Petzl Croll especially on the down climb. It seems to be easier for him to work, when down climbing because of the larger ring opening. You can slight push on the top of the cam with one finger and against the inside side of the big ring with the rest of your fingers (side toward the rope) and have more leverage which seams to be easier than with the Petzl Croll . The ring hole is even large enough to get a gloved finger tip into and the cam really swings back easy when opening fully. It seams to be still real safe even with the big ring. So far we did not have any trouble or negative comments with it. So as of this first try I would say Great job ABC on a great new product! So if any one is in the market for a new chest ascender I would differently give the new ABC a try. Here is the link at OR1 if you like to see it.

I too enjoy the virtues of the ABC chest ascender. I've owned mine since the moment Bruce carried it and I've been very impressed with it's performance.
It's way easier to use then a croll~
