Welcome to US Cavers Forum!
We're here to share cave related news amongst cavers and interested others. Your posts, thoughts, reactions, experiences and ideas are always welcome here. We're just cavers like yourselves and we have diverse points of view, too.
We have a few simple guidelines in order to make US Cavers Forum a pleasant place to visit.
Most of these are common sense and are designed to treat all people and opinions fairly.
First rule: Remember there are real people behind those posts. Even though you may not know them, nearly all our posters are cavers just like you, so remember to treat everyone as you wish to be treated: with courtesy, respect and interest.
Second rule: You are free to disagree with other's ideas, but are not free to be disagreeable or insulting in your manner of doing so. Add to the discussion--do not detract from it. We welcome fresh ideas, cave related news we may have missed, and viewpoints and information from all parts of the world.
All US Cavers Forum posts remain the property and sole expression of the copyright holder (usually the poster). We ask that information quoted from Internet news outlets attribute the author and source, only partially quote the material, and link to the site where you found it. These same requests apply if you quote from posts to this forum. How to make links, post pictures and other cool How-Tos can be found in threads below this FAQ .
Third rule: This is an open forum. Anyone may view it, though only registered members may post. Please refrain from vulgar language, violent or hurtful remarks, and keep your material rated PG-13 or cleaner. Although we are not targeted at children, there are many teens interested in caving, and we'd rather not deal with irate parents.
Fourth rule: We're basically conservation-minded people who value nature and man's place in it. The staff would rather do our oversight invisibly and allow forum members as much freedom as possible, but we reserve the right to edit, lock or remove any posts which we deem as destructive of a conservation approach. If there is a question why something was changed, we will do our best to let you know why.
Generalized cave locations are permitted. Locations of wild caves should be vague enough that no one can easily find a cave from the description. No coordinates, maps or driving directions to wild caves will be allowed. Saying a cave is in in X county, or near Y town is acceptable.
Fifth rule: Please stay on topic and place your posts under the appropriate headers. Anything which you feel of general interest to other members but which does not fit an established heading should go into Open Talk.
Finally: There are no stupid questions, and we hope, very few stupid answers. If you have a question about the functioning of the software, or some other technical issue, use the Forum Topics heading-- chances are someone else out there has the same issue, and maybe is too shy to speak up. To protect your online privacy from strangers, we recommend using the PM function in this board, and using a secondary free email address (Yahoo, Google Hotmail, etc.)
for your registration. One or more of us monitor the visible board daily. If another Forum member is spamming you, floodmailing your inbox, or being insulting or harassing through the PM system, let one of the staff know privately. Being a Forum member is a privilege, and we will deal swiftly with anyone whom we deem is wantonly abusing that privilege.
Like your Mom probably said: "Play nice and have fun, and you'll have a great time!"
Welcome again.
