I ran across this thread today Cavers Forum Advertisingand wanted to maybe bring the topic to the surface for discussion again. Should we advertise? Or is the forum fine as is?

I ran across this thread today Cavers Forum Advertisingand wanted to maybe bring the topic to the surface for discussion again. Should we advertise? Or is the forum fine as is? Personally I think that there are many cavers out there that do not know about US Cavers forum. Since this forum allows a more open discussion arena and has some of the best admins around keeping all of us informed about everything in the caving world I feel it would be a dis-service to the rest of the caving community to not let them know we are here. The other forums are fine and dandy but they have different agendas and limitations. I would like to see more cavers talking openly to see how they really feel about things. Yes - advertise a bit and see what happens.

I don't think we need to spam the world, but spreading the word is always good. OTOH, some of these messages which have multiple hundreds of reads--that's not all the couple of dozen regular posters here.

Spamming cavers IMHO is not Advertising, it is Spam! E-spamming or spamming fellow cavers who have joined the forum to chat is just not appropriate, IMO. Besides that is just plain bad manners. Ok so am I correct to say the consensus so far seems to be to advertise mainly by word-of-mouth...ie...Caver to Caver? Any other comments, recommendations or suggestions?

: Any other comments, recommendations or suggestions? Advertise on other caving sites ie..., put link on IMO, Bob & Bob, etc... I'm sure other people are members of cave related list servers, how about a hyper-link sig at the bottom of the e-mail........

The hyper-link sig is a good idea and we have a small banner if the caving vendors or grottos wish to include it on their sites.
