Phantom in the photograph? By STEPHANIE MILLER Pictures developed after local man’s scuba diving trip show ghostly image Many people believe that every person has a guardian angel assigned specifically to each person to protect them, but few people claim to ever have actually seen the supernatural beings. Now, Ben Cheek isn’t sure what exactly he sees. Cheek and friend, Mike Cherry, were in a fresh water spring in Florida on June 30 diving into a cave. The trip and dive were no different from any other, nothing spectacular happened except that Cherry kept having problems with his breathing apparatus. And, Cheek felt a little apprehensive about the dive for reasons he couldn’t explain. “He had trouble getting down,” said Cheek of Cherry, adding that Cherry’s ears wouldn’t clear up and he got what is called a “mask wheeze,” which means his nose started to bleed because of the pressure inside the mask caused by not having the air flow regulated just right. But, the two decided to go on into the “Little Devil” anyway and finish the dive they had intended. “I felt so awkward at that hole,” said Cheek as he looked back on the trip Friday. The “hole” was the entrance to the cave they were planning to explore. Cheek said the entrance was 25 feet below the surface of the water and it is so small of an area that only one person can really go through it at a time. Cherry made the first entrance into the hole with Cheek above him snapping photos of his attempt. Full Article

That is a strange image indeed. I wonder what the heck caused it? Or who?
Cool article!

Too bad on the artical being removed. The photo showed a white blurry shape near a brightly colored diver. The white shape had what appeared to be a thin hand (skeleton) and arm extending from it as well as a sort of roughly shaped head in the correct location. It wasn't a very good photo but the effect was very unusual.

I saved the image for some reason... I'm unconvinced that it is some strange phantom though. One arm looks suspiciously like a snorkel reflection. I'm not sure what the person was trying to photograph, but I wouldn't be surprised if the flash reflection in the photographer's mask accounts for some of the ghostly iimage. Try turning the image around: could the head be a regulator reflection? I'm not a total skeptic, but I'd like to rule out a normal explanation before jumping to conclusions. I have seen one photo in my life that i cannot figure out (and I've looked at a lot of proported UFO images). Back in the days of film and pre-Internet, I looked at a series of images taken by someone on Mt Krisevac (Mountain of the Cross) at the Marian apparition site of Medjugorie. This was an actual print, not some digital image. It appeared to be a ghostly female figure, surrounded by glowing dots of light, one of a series, and the person who took them had the negatives-- it wasn't something he bought in town. The person who took it said he saw nothing himself-- he just pointed the camera in the direction where others were claiming to see something. The third party developer didn't know what the roll of film was of, so it was unlikely to be a case of deliberate fraud. It's not the only case of apparent female figure photos off that mountain. Because that apparition phenomenon has been going on for over twenty years, and it seems to happen to all sorts of people, I'm inclined to believe there is some weird electrical or magnetic field, not that the Virgin Mary is camped out there. But it is still fairly inexplicable-- I've seen 'cave orbs' (humidity) and played in a darkroom so I know the sorts of things you can do with chemicals and paper-- this did not seem to be either of them.

Yea I was thinking it was just an optical illusion as well but it is an interesting one. The photo is rather craptacular in any event so one can imagine whatever one wants to about the "white figure" in the image. I can hardly make out the real diver!
