Lynn and I enjoyed a trip Sunday to a local area cave we had never visited located near Lewisburg TN. Several cavers from Southport Chronic Cavers and Nashville Grotto showed up to go. It was a nice stream cave with mostly walking passage for about 1500 feet where the stream went under breakdown. Over the top one could do a 75 ft H&K crawl to another room with several crawls branching off as well as what appeared to be a way back down to stream level (I didn't go much further). We enjoyed looking for cave beetles, historic signatures, and signs of possible prehistoric visitation through the cave. There were lots of historic markings and several bats along the way as well. Another group began surveying the cave while we toured. I didn't find any beetles (sorry Dr. Barr) but was surprised to not find any crayfish or much other life besides a few crickets, gnats, and the bats we saw. Maybe something in the water? Anyhow we want to go back and do more exploring as well as take more photos (Lynn has several up on Flickr). After the trip we enjoyed Mexican food with Gerald, Avis and Dave. From all indications everyone on the trip had a good time. Thanks to Southport's Robert-Bob and wife Jan for making the arrangements to visit this fine cave.
