Last night , July 26, was the perfect time for a weeknight cave trip. The main purpose of the trip to take Lauren on her very 'first' caving trip. Due to time restraints the cave we chose was Harrison Saltpetre Cave. Harrison is a local party cave which receives many visitors, some of which leave behind beer bottles, fireworks, graffiti, etc, but the cave a fine example of why groundwater and conserving cave's is important. We geared up and after entering the cave we headed slowly through the main walking main passage and viewed the few formation areas until Lauren got her cave legs. Most caver's know the moment a beginner caver gets their cave legs since the transformation from wobbly to confident strolling is amazing and continues from that point on. Cavers who break-in beginners would be wise to pay close attention because it is always an amazing transformation! It was in that instant that Lauren transformed into a caver and loved every minute underground! So next was some bear walking, stoop walking, hands and knees crawl, squeezes, negotiating a climbdown and of course sliding in the mud. It was at the climbdown that Lauren took over as cave trip leader on the remainder of the trip and led the party out of the cave. Here are a few caving trip photo's:

Have Fun! I hope you aren't disappointed because that cave is a small cave. Still worth at least one trip to see it and say......"Been there, Done that"!

Have Fun! I hope you aren't disappointed because that cave is a small cave. Still worth at least one trip to see it and say......"Been there, Done that"! That it was. I was dissapointed but like you said . Now I can mark it off as another cave done. Do you know the name of that cave? We ended up going to 3 caves saturday. Lynn you might know the second cave we went too . [ Moderated to remove cave location. ] It has about a 3' tall opening that is about 20' wide. Once you get in it opens up BIG time. It only goes for a couple hundred ft though. I have been there before but my caving partner had not so we went & took a look. Do you know the name of that one? Next one we went too was a well known one named B-cave. There was already a couple of cavers there . Bull Snook was the group leader there. Never seen them while in there but seen where he had signed the register in the cave. We only did the old portion of the cave. We did 3 caves in 2 hrs & 15 mins Sorry this was a little long.

It has been modified so we suspect it may have been mined for saltpetre long ago. Ekkk! .... cave digging in a layer of Chattanooga shale?
