Hey all Is anyone back? How was the Tyrolean today? I heard second or I guess third hand info that a woman was injured. No details mentioned. Anything to that?

We are back and have rested enough to post something intelligent! It was a nice day up there and everyone had a great time. We heard secondhand that a woman jumped or fell off the small platform they used for the landing area just after she was unhooked from the rope. It was only three or four feet or so above the ground so I doubt it was too serious but solid rock does not give when you fall on it! Most of the people were handled very well at the landing zone by at least three people who did a great job and deserve many thanks for doing it! In fact the entire team should be thanked for all their work and efforts. I am sure Lynn will post some photos later for your enjoyment.

Ok here are a few photo's from Saturday's Tyrolean Traverse. Huntsville Cave Rescue Unit did an outstanding job, as usual! Those two dots on the wall are actually two caver's climbing rope This was a "Certified Elite Caver - NSS Armchair Section". Well at least that is what his T-Shirt said. ;D

Great photos Lynn...Thanks for posting them!
Hmm...in the photo of the "elite" caver it looks as if he's using a unique technique. I don't recall ever having my feet above my head while doing the Tyrolean. It certainly makes for an interesting picture though.

Yes Sharon the "feet over head" technique became the theme of the day as more and more cavers later adopted it. We have reason to believe that technique allowed a better view of the all important pulley to assure the caver that all was well as he/she rode the rope across the traverse. Other flailing, screaming, backwards, sideways, and laid back styles were also employed to the amusement of all. ;D Lynn should post a few more soon...

More shots I took... This caver was having some fun! While another brought along a few bits of camera gear! I think he was trying to find a gear sherpa.

Nice shots! The guy on the right in the bottom photo hauling all the photography gear looks like Nathan Williams.

Ok here are a few more Tyrolean Photo's. I did not realize that was a "feet over head" caver technique. I just thought fellow caver's were " kicking up their heels " a bit. Nathan Williams is in the first picture.

Great shots you two! Ah, the things cavers do for fun.
Nathan carried approximately the same amount of photo gear on the Iron Hoop trip last month. Several of us were out of the entrance crawl and kept hearing something going clunk, clunk, swoosh,.....clunk, clunk, swoosh and it was him moving one camera case in front of him, then the second case, and then pulling his pack thru the watery crawl. I'd recognize that photo gear anywhere. ;D
