I happened to stumble on a video of the Geico Caveman Commercials today. Reference: Geico Caveman Apology on YouTube.com www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OihnFQj4ec " It's so easy to use Geico.com a Caveman could do it " So how many caver's actually have Geico Insurance anyway? I don't have Geico. Perhaps the commercials target audience is directed at Cavemen and not Cavewomen? Roast Duck with Mango Salsa, Anyone?

I don't have Geico insurance, but the caveman commercials are some of the best advertisements going. I like all of them, but the one where he visits the therapist is a favorite. ;D It stands to reason that cavers would get a kick out of them.

The Caveman commercials are cool that's one reason I posted in back in October and the other was to see if cavers actually do have Geico Insurance. The Geico Caveman Therapy is a great commercial and also the Caveman at the Airport commercial just rocks! Here's another YouTube link for those who may not have seen that one! ;D ;D www.youtube.com/watch?v=H02iwWCrXewP.S. Hey Chuckie where ya been? Haven't seen you on the forum for awhile.

We've used Geico since before the caveman - and that damn gecko. In my experience, Geico service - very good. Rates - quite competitive. The whole caveman thing - funny. The gecko - not so much...

Cavers aren't the only ones who've taken a liking to the caveman commercials. ;D The unofficial blog of the US Coast Guard has posted a manipulated photo of the Geico caveman wearing army fatigues and toting a rifle with a caption reading "Army: So easy a Caveman can do it?" ryanerickson.com/uscg/2006/12/06/army-so-easy-a-caveman-can-do-it/

OMG, I guess it's a coincidence -- but we just got an unsolicited Geico letter. And humm, the Geico Caveman picture wasn't even on the letter. Apparently this form letter....is so easy a Caveman can do it! It starts out Dear Sensible Driver.... Now honestly, how would they know if we were sensible or not?

I recall GEICO used to be for government employees only and were very restrictive of the type of vehicle they would insure as well as the age of the driver(s). Apparently the caveman came along and clubbed a little more sense into their heads. Anyhow I read their letter addressed to "Tennessee Driver" and tossed it into the round file. It really was so easy a caveman could have done it!

ABC developing 'Cavemen'Comedy pilot based on Geico ads Winner for most unusual piece of development this pilot season goes to ABC, which has turned a series of quirky Geico commercials into an actual half-hour comedy project. "Cavemen" will revolve around three pre-historic men who must battle prejudice as they attempt to live as normal thirtysomethings in modern Atlanta. Project, from ABC TV Studio, is penned by Joe Lawson, an advertising copywriter who was behind the "Caveman" ads -- as well as other Geico commercials (think the cockney-speaking Geico gecko, and the reality TV spoof "Tiny House"). I hope the producers think to have the cavemen take up caving and join a grotto. One of the largest grottos, Dogwood City Grotto, is located in Atlanta.

It would be hilarious if they had to go to grotto incognito to avoid the stereotypers. All kind of awkward, tension-filed situations could come from this angle. They would fit in so well another angle would be the cavers are oblivious they are "different", perhaps even thinking the cavemen were effete stiffs. Az should write a script and sell it to them!

If cave men get sitcom, why not M&M guys, or Doughboy? The Washington Post The misunderstood Geico cave man and his unexpectedly sophisticated pals will star in a sitcom on ABC. Getty Images/MARK DAVIS Turns out ABC is planning to give those sensitive cave men from the Geico insurance commercials their own sitcom. If they survive their pilot season, the lovable hirsute Neanderthals reportedly will "battle prejudice as they attempt to live as normal thirtysomethings in modern Atlanta." This got us thinking: Perhaps other commercial characters should pitch their own television projects. "The Melting Pot": The M&M guys move to a gentrifying neighborhood and discover their candy coating isn't as tough as they think. "My Coke's Warm": The Coca-Cola Polar Bears deal with domestic issues (rebellious preteen daughter, gifted but mouthy 6-year-old) against a backdrop of global warming. "Miller Time": Burt Reynolds leads an unconventional private detective agency that exists solely to bring Man Law-breakers to justice. "Spare Tires": Pillsbury Doughboy and Michelin Man are rivals vying to get fit and whittle down their super-pillowy selves. Host: Kirstie Alley. Full Article

NEW 'CAVE' DWELLERNew York Post July 10, 2007 -- WHAT, the guy couldn't play caveman well enough? Dash Mihok has been replaced on ABC's upcoming sitcom, "Cavemen," based on those now-famous Geico commercials. Mihok's being replaced by Sam Huntington, best known for playing Jimmy Olsen on the big screen in "Superman Returns," according to The Hollywood Reporter - which also reports that ABC will launch "Cavemen" not with the show's pilot but with another episode. Huntington will play Andy, the kid brother of Joel (Bill English) who comes to Atlanta to visit after ditching his girlfriend. Full Article

It appears the management of TV shows is similar to most other forms. I imagine the show won't last very long regardless. Still it'll be worth viewing a time or two. Maybe they will have them tour a cave somewhere just for grins instead of being in typical sit-com scenes. How we all long for some imagination coming out of TV and Hollywood.

Hey, that new guy looks Cro-Magnon at least!
The major difference between then and now in TV is that now, first-rate writers find work elsewhere, because they know Hollyweird is going to macerate their work. Also the diff between starting out in theater as a scriptwriter, and in paper publishing as a story writer of some sort. There are conventions for both genres. I'm sure there are differences in acting technique for commercials and for longer sustained pieces. In the 1930s-1960s there were quite a number of well-known paper pub writers who worked in Hollywood. Not so anymore. Also, creative control going from the studio system (with some admittedly quirky studio owners) to the megaconglomerate corporate ownership of studios changed the risk-taking nature of Hollywood. Ever wonder why Lucas/Spielberg set up their own production companies? If you were Bertlesmann, or Time-Warner would you fund E.T. ? What a strange premise.
Indie multimedia is where creativity is, and where it is likely to stay. (Indie-Indy --get it?)
