Azurerana, I'm glad you are at convention and hopefully enjoying it! Thanks for the plug! Lynn, Sharon, Dan, and the rest of the US Cavers gang do a wonderful job here keeping cavers up to date. I'm proud to be a part of this forum as well as an NSS member. It's all good!
I will gladly serve the CCMS again and it is a shame we couldn't make convention this year. Regardless we all hope to accomplish great things in cave conservation and help the CCMS even more. Tell everyone we said howdy and to have a great convention!
Now go scrub - errr - do some good cave conservation! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Azurerana, I hope you are enjoying Convention?! Thanks for the uscaversforum.org plug! It is very much appreciated. ;D But as you may know by now I do think of cave conservation with a wide point of view so many aspects are posted. Okay I can not wait until everyone returns so I have to ask.....who will be serving the CCMS Board this year? If you don't mind me saying I thought you made a very fine seat warmer but I understand you wanting to be a more hands-on Cave Conservationist. We thank you for all your time and contributions and wish you the best of luck in future endeavors! You Rock! Be sure to tell everyone The Cave Conservationist is awaiting Convention updates before the next issue is ready. ( Subtle Hint ) Say Hello to all of the CCMS! We wish we were there and we miss you guys too! Cave Softly, Lynn

Hi Lynn and Brian and Charles...
I am currently in my hotel room getting ready for tomorrows presentation on Schroeders Pants Cave. I arrived earlier today and went straight to the NSS bookstore to meet the ladies there and also Speleobooks and met Emily. Had great talks with all before heading off to hear a few sessions. Then earlier tonight all met up for the evenings entertainment. What a beautiful area up here in the Pacific NorthWest. Tomorrows presentation should be interesting as just recently, one of the guys that has been slamming me here in the forum decided to come and tell us all "what really happened". He speaks after my presentation. In any event , I'm going to tell what I know based on the information that has been told to me by those that were there that week in '65 and also what I have gathered from the Mitchell family. As was told to me the other night, no need to get defensive as everything that "they" have been saying is irrelevant to the "big picture". Well I must get back to doing a lil' last minute work on my presentation plus it is getting late. Wish you all could have been here to meet. Hopefully our paths will cross one of these days.

Hi Christian, Glad you made it to convention also. The NSS bookstore crew and Emily are two of our favorite vendors as well. We stop at each one during any convention or caving event. They are great folks. I hope that your presentation goes very well and that it is well received by the audience. I suppose it will be entertaining to have differing viwepoints about historical facts but that is a common thing that almost always occurs. People observe things differently, evidence is never totally accurate, and humans are not perfect. Thus we almost always have two viewpoints. It keeps life interesting in any case!
Best of luck on your presentation and it will be a pleasure to meet up with you one of these days as well. Enjoy the rest of convention!

Hi Christian, Glad you made it to Convention! I'm sure your presentation will be fine. You've researched, compiled data and now it is time to present your work. No worries. But I do wish we were there to see it! Paths cross and so we will meet you one of these days..... ;D Good luck today and enjoy the Convention! Be sure to stop by IMO! They are also some great folks too! Lynn

Hey everyone! I just sat down to check my email. They have a really neat place here where we can get on line at the convention. I wanted to go to Christian's talk, but when I got there (a few minutes late) all I found was a sign saying I was at the wrong place! Sorry to have missed your talk. I have been lurking reading the thread on here about the subject. Washington is beautiful!!! My parents live here, so we flew in last week for a visit before going to convention. Miss TAG, though... See you guys when we get back!

Christian Lyon Christian Dude! Glad you made it there man. Good karma should follow you through this journey. I'm totally sure everything is cool with most cavers man so don't get all twisted up about it all if a few want to bring things down. I can't friggin wait to see your presentation as soon as it will be out in public. Let us know how things went today man. Your good Karma has been strong all through this deal - for sure its all good. Stay cool... Later man, Charles

Christian Lyon did a very good job of presenting his point of view, as did Tim Downey. He also was taking copious notes on contact info from a number of cavers intimately connected with Schroeder's Pants Cave--information which no doubt will improve his final film and book. On probably 80%+ of the information, they seem either to agree or agree that the actual detail may never be known-- the presentations were a whole lot more amicable than I think many people were expecting. A number of facts came to light on both sides which made some of the discussion on this board moot. Too bad everyone couldn't have been there!
I don't think I've ever been in one room (except for the convention banquet) with so many BNCs turned out to listen intently to both presentations, nor have I been to many convention sessions where it was obvious the audience was hanging on every word spoken and every image shown. . The question now is: what will happen to the cave? No resolution on this as yet, but there is no reason the cave should suffer because of its interaction with humans.
As far as the CCMS board-- the usual cast of characters were retained as officers. Directors re-elected were Brian, Jim Wilbanks, John Hoffelt. New to the board are Jut Wynne (AZ) and Jessica Snider---whom I've never met.

to all ~
Just got back to my hotel room after what was a long, and at times nervewracking day, and am glad it is over. I was very glad to meet so many people and have Azurerana come up and introduce herself to me. Nice to put faces with forum names. As for the presentation - as you can imagine, I was very nervous - first being essentially a "non-caver" in a room full of cavers and second having both Tim Downey and my uncle Jim Crane in attendance. I knew Tim was going to be there but you can imagine my surprise when at 8:15 this morning the first person I saw was Jim. As you all know from reading here - things have been a bit tense. But once my presentation got going, I was fine. Still nervous but at this point there is nothing else I can do so just do my thing. There was one quick presentation next and then Tim's. He gave a very good presentation and afterwards handfulls came up to me and same for him. At that point I walked down to him and said, "nice presentation Tim". That broke the ice and led to a nice conversation with him and my uncle. It then moved outside where we continued to talk and were joined by Steve Stokowski (BG chair) and Ernst Kastings. That went on for a while until the five of us went to lunch were a good dialogue continued. Will we ever agree 100% on what happened or for that matter - will we ever know 100% what happened that week back in 1965 - probably not but I do believe that we all (me, my uncle Jim and Tim) want the best for the legacy or memory of James Gentry Mitchell to be told and carried on. In leaving, Tim wished me luck on the documentary and we shook hands and parted. So the fireworks that we all were expecting really amounted to a few firecrackers and that was fine by me!! In closing I want to thank all for the kind wishes and thoughts and I will keep you all posted as to what happens next. Thanks so much.

So glad the presentation went well Christian. From Azurerana's review, it sounds as if the topic was quite a hit with convention goers, I wish I had been there.
Thanks to you both for the update!

Thanks for the updates Azurerana and Christian! It is good to hear Christian and Tim Downey both did a good job with their Presentations! I believe it is also good that a number of facts came out and good dialogue happened between all! I just wish I had been able to attend.
