azureana, very clear and to the point, thank you and i agree, lynn, yes i have inquired about this in the past. and i think due to the sinsitive nature of such a question i will let that person expose themselves to you in person, they are not ashaimed, but as we have discussed in the past, alot of hard core cavers do look down on this no matter what the rules and ect. and on that i wait for more opinions to pass on, thank you all so far this is exactly the kind of feaadback i need to sway them from this, as they are already considering swaying as it is, this will help

notifing the cave owner will result in one of two things, he will bull doze it shut, and push these vandals to another cave in the area, one that has thus far remained clean, or he will do nothing, as he and his family are tired of dealing with it, and have pretty much unofficially left us in charge of it
the formation is for the most part dry, except in heavy rain
we are looking into wire brushes and lemon juice
and as for the girls, thats a subject im to disgusted to look into right now, personaly id like to see them stripped, tared and feathered then painted blue and made to walk down the city streets carrying a sign telling all, " i hate nature and love to use spray paint on it, im also willing to polute your ground water"

took a few friends and there kids to see a local cave this past Saturday, and was heart broken and disgusted at what we were to see when entering the biggest room, the room that contained the nicest formation in the cave, a large and attractive flowstone fountain, which cascaded down into a wide flowstone mass with a few small rimstones in it, this formations lower half has been walked on by several over the years, but has managed to stay fairly pristine, the upper fountain was just about recovered from orange paint, until one or both of two girls decided to paint there love of each other and caves all over the face of it, this defacement came with in the last few weeks, and could not be removed with a simple scrub brush, it will take more than than a little elbow grease to remove it, below you will find pics from before and after. this is before and here is a link to the after ( sorry for using the link, having trouble posting the pic) www.flickr.com/photos/cavebull/2704828038/in the comments box, you will find pics from one of the other members on this trip, hope your all as happy to see this as me

topo zone has merged with trails.com and now requires membership to be able to download copies of plotted maps, i use this frequently to turn in cave locations to the tcs, does any one know a site i can use for free that will allow me to do this?

sorry, we went to gross skeleton cave, made it back through the stream to the climb up, which is where the tight spot is, again i couldnt fit, so the others went on to look for another route, a rumored route, when it was found it was determined that i would have to swim under a formation with barely enough room for my head to be out of water in a narrow passage, something about the hole didnt settle with me, so i aborted, and took pictures while waiting on the others, we plan to go back with a float so i can make it back to the pretties, should turn out to be a good trip, no no headache, just dont plan on eating any brat's for some time

several friends and i got together down on Guntersville lake this past weekend, to do some camping, drinking, caving and having a good time, we arrived Thursday evening to an already established camp, set up by our Alabama caving buds, we got our tents up and stood around the fire for good conversation and some good old American beer, several several beer's later all are in there tents sleeping but me, I'm hunkered by the front of my truck puking up beer and half cooked bratwursts, its what i get for open fire cooking while intoxicated, i spent most of Friday hovering around camp while the others floated around on the lake, then Saturday morning we headed of to cave, and for the second time in several years i didn't make it through the tight spot to the pretties, but an alternate rout for a float was found, and upon a return trip i will be in there, Saturday morning also had all of us waking to a camp trashed and ravaged by a stray dog, and me waking up to a soaking wet tent, due to being drunk and not putting the rain flap on, so i was in the end,, unable to see all the cave, rained on in my sleep, sick drunk, eat up by mosquito's in my drunken sleep, and i had a blast,, cant wait to do it again,,,,,,,,, minus a few details

troop 411 out of Christiana TN contacted me not long ago wanting to do there yearly conservation project at one of the caves that they have been to, they expressed concern over the trashed nature of the cave, when i guided them in for a tour some time back, I'm happy to say that several boys and leaders, along with a few other kids ( relatives of the boys) showed up and filled up two trash bags in about an hours time, a reporter from the local paper was there and put the story on the front page of the Sunday edition, you can view it from the below link, good job boys the boys with one of three large bags, consisting of several smaller bags, this is the third time in the last year that scouts have helped clean this cave

jlynn becky and i went to grand helictite hall in espey cave this past Sunday, it proved to be a good day to go, as the wind was blowing and the sun was hidden, and the weather was pleasantly cool, which all made the hike back up the hill after, better, it still sucks, but it was almost on the verge of bearable, if you've never been to this section of espey, alls i can say is, its worth it, but DON'T! its beautiful back there, but it hurts getting there, especially if your big like me, the below photos will show the rest of this report, the entrance (landscape view) heligmite bush in the hall crystals forming at the end of a heictite large cluster of helictites, soda straws, and heligmites me coming out of one of the tight spots, in all a good day

with all the negative in the news and all the bad buzz on tag-net I had to get away and forget about it for a while, so my 6 yr old son Jonathon took me out for his first trout fishing trip, and sure enough though they weren't biting much, it made it all go away for a while, nice day to be on the river and a nice little 1/2 lb trout for his first catch ( only one of the day) and his first trout ,(a little rainbow) made him happy and me proud, some nice pics of the river added to the joy of just being out spending time with my boy,

i was lucky to get it the owner had no idea it was there nor did he care as well as nor did he know what it was, when i told him he said and i quote " when was the ocean this far inland?" he was going to cover the large rock it was in with fill dirt, it was in his front yard during construction and he alowed me to cut it out, even still i would not have known about it had a buddie who knows i love fossils and rocks etc, had not shown it to me, i used it for a coffee table for a long time until i got tired of moving the heavy thing every time i vacumed, i would love to find out what specific species it is and how it ranks in size with others like it, can you offer help?

i was thinking that as well but a buddie from the area wants to confirm it with me in person at the fossil, he has found some graptolites of similar size in the area, but you are correct most are small so it most likely is a cephelopod, while on the subject can you sugest any good books for better identifying, I curently have, smithsonian hand books, fossils by:Cyril Walker and David Ward any thing else would be good but suggested by a geolgist would be better,
