Light, sound, defacementBHUBANESWAR: Amitabh Bachchan’s rich baritone might soon reverberate at the Udaygiri hills and draw applause from the visitors and tourists but the monument of Rani Gumpha (Queen’s Cave) is set to be inflicted with scars that can never be erased. Thanks to Tourism Ministry’s light and sound extravaganza, the famous Jain caves are being systematically defaced, all in the name of attracting tourists in more numbers. Walls and surface of the caves have been drilled but Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is resting assured because, the project has got its Director General (DG)’s nod. The 2nd Century BC caves, protected by the ASI, are a landmark not only in Orissan history but also in Jain culture. But the Tourism Ministry appears keen to draw in the crowd overlooking the conservation needs. Full Article Frickin Bos Whats up wit all diss? Yeah man lets go out and destroy culture to make some quick cash! These freaks ought to know better man, bad Karma will roll over them like a big wave man. I'm bummed out, Chucko

BOGUS!!! This I-66 deal and the transpark BS Kentucky is trying to cram down the throat of all the peeps in the area is all about making a buck man. This totally reeks of rich politicians trying to get richer and more powerful. The next friggin tactic they will use is to claim it is all for the children. Oh wait, dude, they are already saying that. What a pile of ... Dude - if you live in Kentucky and you care about what you drink, eat , and breath you really need to get out and let your reps know how you feel about this crap! If they think they won't get re-elected they may act like real freakin human beings instead of sleazy greedy corporate bozos. Chucky

It appears that cave insects are not treated with the same respect as larger cave dwellers. Bats are given much more leeway when discovered near proposed construction sites etc. I guess beetles are too small and insignificant as a species to get in the way of progress. It would be ironic if that beetle holds the key to curing some disease etc and we allowed it to go extinct before ever finding out. Right on dude. You nailed it man!

Dudes, He should have fought the charges man. It's the principle of the thing! No display of the rules means they don't have much to stand on in court - even if they are the feds. 'Course the Cub Scout dudes may have forced him to plead guilty to keep things hushed up. What a steaming pile o'guano this is! Bad Karma for the NPS - and they really don't need it...

Vader Dude, These geocacher types only need to be able to like read, hike, and use a GPS or map to have fun finding these caches right? I hear most of these caches are on the surface of the planet instead of friggin deep inside it! Just about anyone can do it with almost no training, gear, or big friggin effort. So it figures man that there are lots of geocachin dudes and dudettes around out there! So Vader - no offense man - cavers are like different enough to really enjoy crawling, climbing, rappelling, digging, swimming, and mudsliding around in caves just to see what is there rather than finding a hidden treasure some other human left behind with some clues on how to find it. There's really no freaking comparison between the two groups man IMHO. It would be cool to find out what percent of each group is really out there doin stuff though. And I'm sure you know there's more cavers out there than the "NSS 12000" going caving! Hey - do what turns you on man. Chucky has no prob with that! ;D Peace PS: I surfed in and saw a post this AM showing a cave location (Krubera Cave - topo coords and all man) on the NSS Discussion board! Didn't they bust your chops over that a while back? Bad Karma man!

Totally awesome photos Lynn! The cave looks a lot better without the BFCG! I hope they replace it with a LFCG though. Dude - they moved mega tons of steel! That's a gnarly gig man.

What the...
So like the US government wants us to give up all our hard earned cave info to them (KIP) for free or what?
Another web porthole for scientists, road planners, government beurocrats, and (once it leaks out as it always does) every other nimrod out there. Now everybody in the world gets access to cave data online! HOLY CRAP! We better friggin copywrite everything we do (not that the government would care). Aren't these guys friggin smart enough to know this stuff will get hacked into? This is totally depressing.

Dude, That totally Sux man! The perps had to be watchin and waitin for the cavers to go deep into the cave before they struck. Nobody pokes around in a rock face for no reason when a cave entrance is so close. They were stalkin those cavers man. That's cold I hope they get busted and tossed under the jail. Caves eat enough gear without help from theives! Talk about bad Karma! Chuckie
