The NSS Board Arrangements Committee is seeking a host for the fall 2008 NSS Board of Governors meeting.
Has your grotto or region ever considered hosting a Board of Governors meeting? It’s actually rather easy to do and doesn’t take that much time. It’s also a great opportunity to meet the members who make policy for the NSS. The NSS holds three BOG meetings each year (spring, summer and fall). The summer meeting is always held at the NSS convention, while the spring (usually in March) and fall (usually in October) meetings are hosted by internal organizations.
A typical meeting weekend is:
- Friday evening social (usually at a member’s home).
- Saturday meeting and evening dinner or program.
- Sunday field trip or other activity.
NSS board members travel to and from all meetings at his or her own expense and generally stay at a member’s home. Members should also be available to pick board members up at the airport and transport them back to the airport for departure. For the Saturday meeting, a meeting place for 50 to 100 people is needed, along with tables and chairs. Tables and chairs for the 17 board members and recording secretary are needed. Power outlets for the voting system, tape recorder and board member’s laptop are also needed. Lunch for the board members during the closed session is also needed and board members typically pay for his or her meal.
The Saturday evening activity can be a dinner (formal or informal), party, or some like activity. Sunday is usually reserved for field trips, cave trips, sight seeing, and departure for most board members.
Please contact me at mhcaver@aol.com or 937-252-2978 for more information about available dates and other information. You can also find more information at www.caves.org/info/hostbogmtg/. I hope your organization will consider hosting a Board of Governors meeting.
