Local paper in town talks about the White Nose Syndrom in bats. www.thetimestribune.com/homepage/local_story_100092245.htmlBats are dying off in caves from West Virginia to the northern reaches of New England — and scientists don’t completely understand why. The condition, called White Nose Syndrome because of the white fungus that grows on infected bats’ noses, was first spotted in New York state in 2006 and has slowly spread south and west. Researchers believe the bats are being infected by the previously unknown fungus which seems to cause them to awaken several times during hibernation. To prevent the spread of the fungus that appears to be killing so many hibernating bats, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is asking people in affected states and states adjacent, which includes Kentucky, to stay out of caves for fear that humans might spread the disease further.....
