SW Missouri student rescued from caveCASSVILLE, Mo. - Emergency crews spent more than five hours rescuing a teenager who fell down a slope in a cave on a school field trip. The 13-year-old student at Springfield Public Schools fell on his back Tuesday while climbing in the Rockhouse Cave near Cassville, said Capt. David Bowman of the Barry County Sheriff's Department. The school district would not release the name of the boy, who complained he could not feel his legs as rescue workers pulled him through the narrow passages of the cave. He was airlifted to a Springfield hospital where the extent of his injuries were not disclosed. Bob Keyes, a spokesman for the district, said seven students and three staff members were on the trip, which has "been going on every spring for a while." Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly said two years ago, students and teachers from the same school had to be rescued from the area because of flooding. "It's a dangerous cave to be in," he said. www.belleville.com/mld/belleville/news/state/14380298.htm
