Exhausted caver's mountain rescue A woman caver has been rescued from a mountain in the Brecon Beacons in blizzard conditions after suffering hypothermia and exhaustion. The 20-year-old from Caerphilly was with friends in the Pwll Dwfn cave on the Black Mountain, when rescuers were alerted on Thursday at 1800 GMT. It took two hours to carry her to safety by stretcher, said a spokesman for Western Beacons Mountain Rescue. She was taken to Swansea's Morriston Hospital for treatment. As temperatures plummeted and conditions worsened, nine members of West Brecon Cave Rescue Team carried the woman out of the cave near Craig-y-Nos. Three-quarters of the way up the mountain, she was passed to 12 mountain rescuers. The conditions on the mountain were quite treacherous with driving snow and low temperatures Nick McAllister, Western Beacons Mountain Rescue She was carried to a car park at Dan yr Ogof caves near Abercrave, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to hospital. Nick McAllister, a spokesman for Western Beacons Mountain Rescue in Bridgend, said: "The conditions on the mountain were quite treacherous with driving snow and low temperatures. "It took 12 mountain rescue team members about two hours to carry the stretcher to the road head over rocky and slippery terrain." Mr McAllister said it was the team's 59th rescue of the year, about 10 more than last year. news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/mid_/4568782.stm
