This has been a hilarious thread! Humor is the best medicine for what may ail a person. I think everyone is getting their groove back. ;D Has anyone posted a definition for "We've decided to go in a new direction?" It's going to be hard to top the "It's not personal, it's just business"....one of my personal favorites to date. ;D Humor combined with a dose of good cave air - Does a body good! Its a cure all! Yes we all apparently needed our groove restored! As Dr. Beaner prescribes .... take two cave trips and call me in the morning. ;D "We've decided to go in a new direction" was defined in an earlier post but of course their may be a better definition. New Direction - term used to totally wipe out what the hierarchy does not deem acceptable and replace it with something they do deem acceptable.I know I have heard more phrases/term but they are not coming to mind yet.

Azurerana, those were great!! Lynn, I've got deffinition number 2 for "new direction"... "We've Decided to Go in a New Direction" - an excuse Speleopolititians use when they don't want to follow through with promises to the Peanut Gallery, instead they ignore the original promise claiming that it is no longer part of the New Direction. Promise - a casual comitment to the Peanut Gallery mostly intended to make them STFU. Take Action - waiting for the board to meet to argue endlessly and finally vote on a completely different topic. Board meeting - a meeting where everyone is board. If you have ever attended one, you will know exactly what I mean. EC Yahoo Discussion Group - a place where speleopolititians secretly discuss how they really feel about the Peanut Gallery!

;D EC Yahoo Discussion Group! Thanks Kelly! Hey finally I just thought of another phrase. Shoot the Messenger - the first peanut gallery member that posts in public and raises question concerning internal affairs will be shot, shamed, flogged, flamed and/or accused of a knee jerk response. er....better shoot low I'm crawling ;D

Thanks, I missed the "new direction" definition earlier. I was probably laughing too hard.
I did think of one piece of terminology today --
"Now is not the time for finger-pointing" - A term used when something goes wrong and a no one can find a peon to blame it on.
;D

Cave sherpa: Deluded individual that carries around impossibly heavy cave packs for others, in order to gain access to closed caves.
Mental Problems: An accusation that a speleopolitician levies against a caver when that caver 1) Refuses to back down from issues important to them or 2) brings up facts and data that shows operational problems within an organization that the speleopolictian controls.

Sharon and Cindy those were Good Ones! ;D Here's a couple: Speleopolitical Suicide - taking the initiative to do some things that are right and good for the caving community instead of conforming to the same thinking pattern of other speleopoliticians. OCP - Organized Cave Police.

New one's today: Squeaky wheels - members who voice their opinions. Position Of Authority - apparently thought to be a volunteer position with some type of power.(?) To keep the society a “happy family” - see Team Player Kowtowing to your egos - really not sure what this is.

Kowtowing - to show too much respect to someone in authority, always obeying them and changing what you do in order to please them. (right out of the dictionary)

Pretzlgirl, why did you edit some of the old posts in this thread -- a couple that weren't even yours -- over the last couple of days? Was it to remove any clear references to the NSS (which may have been replaced in some posts with **?) and other undisputable evidence that the negative vibes had been aimed at the NSS?

"Negative Vibes"--any expression of dissenting opinion. Commonly punished under extreme political regimes by death, banishment to Siberia or forced labor camps.
"Off Rope"--phrase uttered by nonprofit volunteers who have reached the end of their tether.
"Duct-Taped to a Lawn Chair"-- punishment, not technically illegal, to restrain those expressing negative vibes.
Hodag-- frightening and deformed cave creature doomed to eternity underground. Related to Gollum (cf., Tolkien, Lord of the Rings). Becoming a hodag is the ultimate fate of Speleopoliticians who hold the Ring of Power much too long.

This is slightly OT (off topic) but relevant to the thread so I'm posting it here. Some cavers pm'd/ emailed and indicated grotto newsletters and/or the NSS SpeleoDigest contained previously published Speleopolitician Terms and/or phrases. I'm interested in receiving more information, if you could please direct me to the exact pubications (pub/page) this topic is in, I'd appreciate it! Thanks in Advance!
