6) SERA AWARDS
By: Martha Mills (Sewanee, Tennessee)
Hello SERA Cavers,
As the current Chairman of SERA I would like to encourage everyone to think about nominating a deserving caver for one of the SERA Awards. Each year at the Winter Business Meeting five awards are presented. Four of them require nomination in advance. They are the Francis McKinney Award, the Richard Schreiber Award, the Alexix Harris Conservation Award, and the Larry S. Adams Landowner Appreciation Award.
There is another award, the SERA Meritorious Service Award, but this one is nominated at the meeting.
The criteria for the awards and the process for nominating is on the SERA Website. The website address is www.caves.org/region/sera/SERAAwrd.htm
The following process for nominating is copied from the website and post ed here. "Nominations for SERA Awards will be accepted in writing by the Awards Committee Leaders (Chair and Vice Chair) from any SERA caver or SERA organization on a year round basis. These nominations will be forwarded to the Awards Committee members for review. The nomination must be completed on an award form available on
the SERA web site (http://www.caves.org/region/sera/SERAAwrd.htm ) or by mail from the Awards Committee Leaders. The Awards Committee Leaders must receive nominations for awards one month before the SERA Winter Business Meeting."
This year the deadline for submissions will be January 16, 2008 because the Winter Business Meeting will be on February 16, 2008 in LaFayette GA and hosted by DCG. More information on thie meeting will be coming from Jane Morgan of the DCG closer to the meeting date.
If you wish to send your nomination by e-mail please send it to both me and John Attaway the Vice-Chair. Our e-mail addresses are mgmills@earthlink.net and jattaway67@bellsouth.net. YOu may also snail mail it to either of us. We are both listed in the 2007 NSS Members Manual (John's address is correct but his e-amil is incorrect - please use the e-mails listed above).
Thanks,
Martha
