Hope ya'll are as excited as so many others about this weekend's Kleanup. It will be Saturday, Jan 12th, at 10 AM in the lovely little town of Whitwell, TN, sponsored by the Sera Karst Task Force and the Sewanee Mt Grotto.
The County Mayor is very happy to have us cavers doing good deeds in Marion County. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to John Attaway (SKTF Member) and I on Monday for what cavers have been doing in the county. He says now that we have proven ourselves (20 tons of trash removed from Orme Mt Rd!!!!!!) that he will do everything in his power to support us in even greater ways. (Even told me about a wet vertical cave I didn't know even existed, maybe nobody knows about LOL) Between the great small town of Whitwell, local landowners and great press coverage, maybe word will spread of cavers being more than some bunch of thrill seekers (Aren't we all at heart?). This and other good works could open up some closed caves and lead to good info from locals about more new caves. Its a win win thing, don't cha think? So put away your rack and light, but bring your helmet and gloves to Whitwell this Saturday! Offer still stands for camping and breakfast at my house Saturday morning. Don't forget dinner
and a Sewanee Mt Grotto meeting that night. For more info, email me please.
Directions: Get off I-24 at exit 155. Go north on 28 to Whitwell. After the first traffic light next to a Hardee's, go a short way and turn left onto 108. Go to 4 way stop and turn left. Stay straight when the road forks 3 ways. Please park on the side of the road away from the ravine part way up the MT. Ignore the road closed signs of course! Wooooohoooooooo, lets pickup some trash! See ya'll there!
