Hello All!
My name is Mike Green (the younger of the two). Although I have only been caving for three years, I have gain my experience very quickly. I have been vertical caving in the Andes Mountains in Peru, caving in Klamath in Cali (bigfoot country), and caving in the Main Drain area in Utah; however, wet, vertical caving in TAG is my passion. TAG is a wonderful place where a cavers wet dreams come true! jk, but no really, TAG kicks ass! although i might not respond to every post, I really enjoy reading about everyone's adventures, especially while I'm sitting in the boring, old office! So, keep postin' those trip reports. Its all some of us have to keep from going insain during the week!

A bit about me: My first cave trip was at Mammoth Cave, Kentucky around 1962 when I was lucky enough to go with my parents on the boat ride tour on Echo River. Several years later when we lived in Europe, we went through Postojnska Jama in Jugoslavia. Being quite young and impressionable those two trips really stuck in my mind! After moving to Colorado in 1968 we went on a Cave of the Winds tour. Remembering that tour, in Junior High and High School whenever some of my classmates would go hiking around Williams Canyon (where Cave of the Winds is) I would always manage to get myself invited to go with them in hopes of finding more caves. We were always trying to find Hucky's cave but nobody I went with knew where it was. So instead we spent lots of time in Pedros cave whose entrance was quite obvious being so close to the road. I also did quite a bit of "sewerlunking" while in High School. I have quite a few relatives in Kentucky, so every time I went to visit them I took the opportunity to make every cave trip possible. I also visited Carlsbad when I was quite young and have been back several times since. In 2003 I joined the Southern Colorado Mountain Grotto and am quite active in the Colorado caving community.

Welcome and thanks for the intro Caveguy. I see you are a Madrat! Excellent! BTW I am trying to get folks to either move their posts out of this thread and make them individual postings under the "Cavers Topic"... or....just post a new one there. Would you consider moving your post like the other two that have been moved so far? It would be cool for the rest of those who have posted an intro to do the same - if they don't mind. It makes it easier to see the new intros and how many different cavers post in this thread. Thanks in advance!

First Post! I have been caving for a few years, and I finally decided to attempt to meet a few people who share my interests. And possibly some organized caving in the near future. Not too much going on in MI though. I travel to KY and TN frequently to hike in the Smoky Mountains and cave, but it can be tough not being involved with any local cavers. Probably will be moving to TAG next year.

Welcome to the forum moonshine. We have a handful of Kentucky cavers on here and many cavers from Tennessee. Maybe you can hook up a trip with some of them. If you think you will be doing much caving in and around Tennessee or Kentucky in the coming year, you could always join one of the local grottos. Most of them have a monthly newsletter, which would give you a leg up on getting to know a few folks and possibly some upcoming grotto trips. You may have already considered this, and if so please disregard. There are also many, many caving events listed in the Caving Events section of the forum that will give you a chance to meet up with cavers too.

I'm a south porter at heart and mud crawler for life "live to cave, cave for life" want to know more hit me up on here or at cavemein@yahoo.com

Well met Bull! Y'all'd have a hoot with us out west here.
Folks ask me if I hunt rocks in caves. I tell them, "Sure, but I leave them where I find them."

Hi Jonah welcome to the forum and to caving! I am located in Mid-Tenn but occasionally we cave in East Tennessee. If you want to find some grotto's try this link caves.org/io/grottos.shtml . A few that come to mind are Appalachian Grotto in Morristown, Smoky Mountain Grotto in Knoxville and East Tennessee Grotto in Oak Ridge TN.

My experience with caving is rather limited. I have visited several wild caves and thoroughly enjoyed it. Two years ago I moved to the Sierra Tarahumara mountains in Chihuahua, Mexico. Here there is an abundance of caves and mines mostly in limestone formations. I am particularly interested in visiting inaccessible caves that require rock climbing or rappelling to reach the entrances because of the increased chance of finding burial caves and cliff dwellings that haven't been looted. The last cave I visited was a Tarahumara Indian burial cave. Unfortunately it is relatively accessible and had been desecrated. All of the skulls were missing. In the near future I hope to visit three caves that are prominent in local legends. Two of the caves are no longer easily accessible and haven't been visited by anyone in several generations because the trails up the cliff faces have eroded away. I have received an invitation to visit one of these caves from a local native leader, I hope to be invited to visit the other. My primary interest in caves is rooted in archeology and anthropology.
I currently am not adequately skilled in rock climbing and rappelling and need to learn more...
