I just thought I would relay the days' caving adventures of several of our intrepid forum "management personnel". ( We Cave! ) Lynn, Sharon, and I met up with several Southport Chronic Cavers and friends at the impressive Stephens Gap Cave in northern Alabama today for some pit bouncing and photos. The rig produced a mostly free 147 foot drop to a slick ledge (or you could optionally continue down another 50 feet or so into the water spray at the bottom) where you could get off rope and walk back out of the cave to do it again. Today the pit had a nice waterfall on one side roaring away from the far edge of the open air drop. Luckily our rig allowed a dry rappel into the pit. Others could easily walk into the sloping cave entrance for photos of the cavers on rope. It's a beautiful place to spend a Saturday (instead of sitting in front of a computer all day!). The weather even cooperated today with warm temperatures, low humidity and a mostly blue sky. We all had a great time and hopefully got some cool action shots. Dan we missed you!

Wow, sounds like a great time was had by all. I wish we had pits to bounce around here. I'm headed over to Mikies house for breakfast, then we are going cave digging for a few hours. Then I'm off to an afternoon lunchen with my mom. Happy mothers day to all on this fine spring day.

No doubt we had a great day! I have some tender muscles to prove it! New cavers met, new friendships formed, a great cave and loads of fun! That's what caving is all about! Sounds like you have a great day planned Dan. Please let us know how the dig progresses. Pardon the pun but ..... Can you Dig It? ;D

It was a beautiful day to be out caving and we had a great time! I haven't even downloaded photos from my camera yet, but will post a few when I do. Like others, I have family obligations to tend to with it being Mother's Day this weekend.
Dan, if you Colorado Cavers promise to return them, we could loan you a couple of pits for a few weeks, but you all will have to come pick them up. ;D ;D Have fun with the dig!

You ladies are gett'in the best of the deal......Not only did it snow on top today, but the worlds deepest granite cave is on the North side. As far as a spot to set it.......I'll take a WAG and say it's 25 miles in diameter. Hope that helps.

No one would notice it in Grassy Cove. But if we are trading Pikes Peak for Fantastic Pit we should consider setting the Peak in that hugh void that will occur when FED-EX loads Fantastic onto its truck.

A couple of photos from Saturday: There was a rainbow in the waterfall all day Saturday and I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to get a photograph of it, without any real success I might add. Here is one of the better attempts: One person rappelling:

No, sorry. I took a dozen or so pics of folks rappelling and climbing without taking note of who was on rope at the time.

I'd forgotten about that shot Lynn. Casey will like that one a lot, she's always putting my helmet on. I'll have to print that one out for her. Thanks for sharing!
